Man United’s £30m Signing Compared to Jeremy Doku

Manchester United’s first signing under Ruben Amorim, Patrick Dorgu, has already sparked excitement, with former Arsenal and Man City defender Bacary Sagna likening him to City’s explosive winger Jeremy Doku.

The 20-year-old Danish international arrived from Lecce in a deal worth just under £30 million, signing a five-and-a-half-year contract at Old Trafford. With 57 appearances for the Serie A side and four Denmark caps to his name, Dorgu is expected to make an immediate impact in United’s struggling squad.

Sagna, speaking to Great Offshore Sportsbooks, praised Dorgu’s attacking style:

“He’s very direct, fast, and powerful. I watch a lot of Italian football, and even in a struggling Lecce team, he stood out. He’s a player who can take opponents on one-on-one and will be exciting to watch in the Premier League.”

Doku played a crucial role in Man City’s title-winning campaign last season, and United fans will hope Dorgu can bring similar dynamism to Amorim’s setup.

The young full-back expressed his delight after sealing the move:

“This is a very special day for my family. I can’t wait to work with Ruben Amorim—his vision for the team is incredibly exciting. Manchester United is the perfect place for me to fulfill my potential.”

United’s technical director, Jason Wilcox, echoed the optimism:

“Patrick is a really exciting talent. His strong defensive and attacking attributes, adaptability, and work rate will make him a key part of Amorim’s squad.”

Dorgu was one of two signings for United in January, alongside 18-year-old defender Ayden Heaven from Arsenal. However, the club also saw several departures, with Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia all leaving on loan.

United’s struggles under Amorim continue, as they remain 13th in the Premier League—where they were when Erik ten Hag was sacked in November. Their latest setback was a 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace, but they’ll look to bounce back in Friday’s FA Cup clash against Leicester City.

With Dorgu now in the squad, fans will be eager to see if the young talent can live up to his Doku comparisons and help turn United’s season around.
