Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has suggested he may deploy Victor Boniface and Patrick Schick together in attack more frequently after their impressive showing in Die Werkself’s 3-2 DFB Pokal win over FC Cologne on Wednesday night.
The match marked the first time this season that the two strikers started together. Schick made his presence felt, scoring Leverkusen’s second goal deep into stoppage time to help seal the victory.
Alonso’s tactical tweak paid off, and with Leverkusen pushing for success on multiple fronts, the Spanish coach could be tempted to make the Boniface-Schick partnership a regular feature in his lineup.
