Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has defended his decision to deploy Patrick Dorgu on the right flank during his debut against Leicester City. The 20-year-old, signed from Lecce for £25 million, was expected to fill the left wing-back role due to injuries and squad reshuffles.
However, Amorim opted to keep Diogo Dalot on the left and start Dorgu on the opposite side in United’s FA Cup victory, sealed by Harry Maguire’s late winner.
Although the Denmark international showed glimpses of promise, he was substituted at halftime. Amorim later cited limited training time with his new teammates as a factor but remained firm that Dorgu is comfortable on both flanks.
The manager highlighted the youngster’s versatility, pace, and strength, emphasizing that his adaptation to English football will take time. Amorim also stressed the importance of full-backs capable of playing on either side, hinting that United fans could see Dorgu used flexibly in future matches.
