Teen sensation Trey Nyoni is set to feature in Liverpool’s FA Cup match against Plymouth Argyle, further cementing his place in the club’s first-team plans.
The 17-year-old midfielder has already made appearances in the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, and Champions League, though he is still waiting for his Premier League breakthrough.
Nyoni’s rise has been rapid since joining Liverpool from Leicester City in September 2023. He wasted no time making an impression at Anfield, earning a spot on the bench for a Premier League clash against Brentford just two months after his arrival.
While he didn’t feature in that game, he soon made history in February 2024, becoming Liverpool’s youngest-ever player in the FA Cup at 16 years and 243 days during a match against Southampton.
His record-breaking journey continued in Europe when he replaced Andy Robertson against PSV in the Champions League, making him Liverpool’s youngest-ever player in European competition.

His development under new manager Arne Slot has been steady, with the Dutchman showing confidence in the teenager by handing him starts in domestic cup competitions, including the League Cup victory over Southampton in December.
Nyoni has also been a standout at the international level, representing England from Under-16 to Under-19. Slot has been vocal about the youngster’s potential, emphasizing the importance of consistent game time for his development.
The manager acknowledged Nyoni’s talent but stressed that progress requires more than just raw ability.

“He’s only just turned 17, but he’s got a lot of talent,” Slot said earlier this season. “He made an impact in pre-season, but being a talent isn’t enough. He needs playing time to develop, and that’s why we’re making sure he keeps getting opportunities.”
The teenager has balanced first-team exposure with youth competition, captaining Liverpool’s Under-19 squad against AC Milan while training with the senior squad. Slot believes training alongside Liverpool’s established stars will help accelerate his development.
“We’re taking good care of him,” Slot added. “He’s still very young, but he’s shown some really exciting qualities.”
With every appearance, Nyoni edges closer to becoming a regular feature in Liverpool’s first team. His journey is just beginning, but the signs suggest he could be one of the club’s brightest future stars.
