Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has fired back at Roy Keane’s criticism of Alejandro Garnacho, insisting the young winger is one of the few players in the squad willing to take risks.
Keane had questioned whether Garnacho could be trusted as a starter despite his game-changing performance against Leicester City in the FA Cup.
Garnacho was benched in December but has since fought his way back into the team, proving his worth with a dynamic display that helped turn the game around.
While Keane acknowledged the 20-year-old’s influence, he suggested he still lacked consistency.
Ferdinand, however, strongly disagreed. Speaking on Rio Presents, he praised Garnacho’s bravery and determination, comparing him to former United star Nani.
He admitted the youngster’s decision-making and execution still need refining but argued that his energy and fearlessness make him invaluable, especially in a struggling squad.
