Mohamed Salah’s future at Liverpool looks increasingly uncertain, with his close friend and former teammate Dejan Lovren suggesting the Egyptian star is “closer to leaving than staying.” As Liverpool navigates a contract standoff with Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the possibility of all three departing on free transfers looms large.

Lovren, who played alongside Salah from 2017 to 2020, revealed in an interview with WinWin that he remains in contact with the forward and believes Liverpool may not be willing to meet his demands.

“I think he deserves whatever he’s asking for,” Lovren stated, emphasizing Salah’s continued high-level performance despite approaching his 33rd birthday.

Drawing comparisons to Cristiano Ronaldo, Lovren dismissed concerns over Salah’s age, pointing out that the Egyptian remains in peak physical and mental condition.

He also suggested that Salah feels underappreciated by the club. “In the end, I came to the conclusion that the club doesn’t respect him enough,” he added.

Salah, who is reportedly seeking a three-year deal on similar terms to his current contract, has been a vital figure for Liverpool, netting 21 Premier League goals and 26 in all competitions this season. However, with negotiations stalling, fans are left wondering whether they will soon bid farewell to one of the club’s greatest ever players.
