Mikel Arteta has expressed optimism regarding the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as England’s new head coach, anticipating significant growth for Arsenal’s English players under his leadership. Tuchel, confirmed as the permanent England manager this week, will replace interim boss Lee Carsley in January.

Arteta, who holds Tuchel in high regard, believes the German’s extensive coaching experience with top clubs like Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Bayern Munich will greatly benefit players such as Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice. “They’re going to learn a lot! I think he’s one of the best coaches in the world, in my opinion, without a doubt,” Arteta stated. He added that conversations with his players revealed their excitement about the change, as they approached the news with smiles.

Addressing the broader implications of Tuchel’s appointment, Arteta reflected on the significance of foreign managers leading the England team. While acknowledging some disappointment over the absence of an English manager, he emphasized the pride associated with foreign interest in the role. “I would take a lot of pride that a lot of managers want to become the England manager,” Arteta remarked, underscoring the respect and love he has experienced in the UK since moving here in 2002.

The Arsenal boss praised the UK’s football culture, noting that it feels like home after 22 years in the country. “I always feel respected, always feel welcome,” Arteta concluded, highlighting the historical significance of English football and the warm reception foreigners receive in the sport.
