Former Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has urged reporters to “move on” when questioned about his relationship with manager Erik ten Hag. After a disappointing stint at Old Trafford, he joined Girona on a four-year deal for less than £500,000 in July.

United signed Van de Beek for £40 million in 2020, but he made only 42 Premier League appearances. While he felt he started well at United, he admitted that things “did not click.”

“It’s difficult to pinpoint the reasons,” he said. “Sometimes it’s just football.” Van de Beek also cited injuries as a significant setback, stating that he was “unlucky” and that injuries interrupted his momentum, making it tough to regain his place in the squad.

Regarding his relationship with Ten Hag, Van de Beek said, “I don’t know… I think it’s difficult. Should we move on to the next subject?”

Now at Girona, where he aims to revive his career, Van de Beek expressed optimism about his new club, noting, “It’s a very nice club with good people and teammates.” Girona finished third in La Liga last season, qualifying for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Manchester United has struggled this season, currently sitting 14th in the Premier League ahead of their match against Brentford.
