Graeme Souness has expressed doubts about Manchester United’s four summer signings, claiming they are not of the caliber needed to challenge for major honors. United, currently 14th in the Premier League, have endured a poor start to the 2024-25 season, putting Erik ten Hag’s future under scrutiny.

In a column for the Daily Mail, Souness also criticized the club’s decision to cut Sir Alex Ferguson’s £2 million ambassadorial role, calling it a “disgrace” and a sign that the new leadership doesn’t understand how football works.

United spent over £200 million in the transfer window, signing Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, and Manuel Ugarte. However, Souness believes these players won’t help United compete for top trophies. While Mazraoui has impressed at right-back, Zirkzee, de Ligt, and Ugarte have struggled to make an impact. Yoro, sidelined with injury, hasn’t played yet.

With Brentford visiting this weekend, Souness warned that even this fixture poses a challenge for United in their current state.
