Blackpool manager Steve Bruce will not attend Saturday’s match against Barnsley following the sudden and unexpected death of his four-month-old grandson, Madison. Blackpool FC confirmed this news on Friday, expressing their condolences and requesting privacy for Bruce and his family during this difficult time.

A statement from the club read: “Head coach Steve Bruce will not be in attendance at tomorrow’s fixture against Barnsley due to the tragic passing of his four-month-old grandson Madison. Everyone at the football club sends their love to Steve and his family. We ask that their privacy is respected as they come to terms with this sudden and unexpected loss in their family.”

Madison was the son of Bruce’s daughter and her husband, former professional footballer Matt Smith, who played for Fulham, QPR, and Millwall. Clubs across London, including Millwall, sent their condolences, with Millwall stating, “We are with you every step of the way, Smudger.”

Additionally, Bruce’s son, Alex Bruce, who is assistant manager at Salford City, will also miss his team’s fixture against Crewe Alexandra due to the family tragedy. Salford City offered their support, emphasizing the need for privacy as the family grieves.
