Ibrahima Konate has done little to quell rumors about a potential Liverpool departure, as Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid reportedly show interest.
Since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2021, the 25-year-old has gradually become a crucial figure in Liverpool’s defense.
His partnership with Virgil van Dijk has been key to the Reds’ success this season as they battle for the Premier League, Champions League, and an upcoming Carabao Cup final.

Despite his importance to the team, Konate hasn’t dismissed speculation about his future. When asked about the links to PSG and Real Madrid, he told Telefoot:
“Hearing that top clubs are interested in me is flattering. But right now, my focus is on winning as many trophies as possible this season. My agents handle my contract situation.”
Konate remains under contract with Liverpool until 2026, and with uncertainty already surrounding the futures of key players like Van Dijk, Mo Salah, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, the club will be keen to hold onto him.
PSG’s interest isn’t new, and Konate previously acknowledged his connection to the Parisian club. In an interview last year with RMC Sport, he revealed:
“It makes sense because I was born in Paris. My six older brothers are PSG fans, and we watched many games together. I even visited the stadium a lot as a kid.
But I’ve built my own path starting at Sochaux, then Leipzig, and now Liverpool. I’m happy here and not paying too much attention to speculation.”
Liverpool manager Arne Slot has spoken highly of Konate’s abilities but believes the defender still has room for improvement.
“He’s already an outstanding center-back strong, tall, and physically dominant. But his ball-playing skills could improve. He’s working hard on that, and I can already see progress,” Slot said.
While Konate’s defensive skills are top-tier, his ability to build play from the back is an area where Liverpool’s coaching staff hopes to elevate him further.
For now, he remains a key part of their squad, but speculation over his long-term future refuses to fade.
