Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was reportedly ready to leave the club this summer amid interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. According to ESPN, Fernandes was seriously considering an exit during the transfer window. However, United, in a “panic,” offered him a lucrative new contract to ensure he stayed, extending his deal until 2027 with an option for another year.

Before signing the contract, Fernandes hinted at a potential departure, stating his future wasn’t entirely in his hands and expressing dissatisfaction with his season’s performance. Despite this, the Portuguese midfielder eventually committed to the club, with his new deal reportedly worth over £300,000 a week.

Upon signing, Fernandes reaffirmed his passion for United, stating he believes his best moments at the club are still ahead and expressing confidence in the team’s future. The midfielder has since continued wearing the captain’s armband but has faced a challenging season, receiving red cards in two of his last three appearances.

Fernandes will feature in United’s upcoming match against Brentford after a successful appeal overturned his Premier League ban following a red card against Tottenham.
