The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has taken swift action following the recent travel ordeal that forced the Super Eagles to withdraw from their Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Libya, according to Soccernet.ng.

Per the Daily Trust, the NFF has submitted all relevant documents to the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Disciplinary Committee, outlining the events leading up to the scheduled fixture on October 15.

The controversy began when the Nigerian team’s flight to Benghazi was unexpectedly redirected to Al Abraq Airport. Upon arrival, the Super Eagles faced nearly 20 hours of detention at the airport, reportedly without food or water.

In response to the alarming situation, the Nigerian government instructed the NFF to withdraw the team, citing safety concerns in the tense environment.

Before officially pulling out, the NFF had already lodged a formal complaint with CAF, accusing Libyan authorities of treating the Nigerian delegation unacceptably. CAF condemned the incident, describing the treatment of the Super Eagles as “despicable.”

Both the NFF and the Libya Football Federation (LFF) were given until October 20 to provide detailed accounts of the situation. While the NFF complied with the deadline, the LFF has sought legal representation, asserting that the flight diversion was a decision made by Libyan state authorities rather than the football federation.

As CAF investigates, the outcome of the match remains uncertain, with possible consequences including a rescheduled fixture or disciplinary action.
