Nigeria international Joe Aribo netted his first goal of the season for Southampton in their Premier League match against Leicester City at St Mary’s Stadium on Saturday, October 20, 2024.
Aribo converted a clever cut-back from Kyle Walker-Peters to double the Saints’ lead after Cameron Archer opened the scoring in the 8th minute.
This goal marked Aribo’s first Premier League goal in 25 months, with his last strike in the competition dating back to October 2022, when he scored Southampton’s only goal in a 2-1 loss to Everton.
Despite leading 2-0 at halftime, Southampton succumbed to a 3-2 defeat as Leicester City, featuring Wilfred Ndidi, made a strong comeback with goals from Facundo Buonanotte, Jamie Vardy, and a late strike from Jordan Ayew.
Aribo has now scored three goals in 28 Premier League appearances. He had a solid Championship campaign last season, with four goals and one assist in 38 games after joining Southampton from Rangers in July 2022.
