Former Italy striker Alessandro Del Piero has weighed in on Ademola Lookman’s recent clash with Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini.
Gasperini lashed out at Lookman following Atalanta’s 3-1 home loss to Club Brugge on Tuesday, a defeat that sealed their UEFA Champions League exit with a 5-2 aggregate score.
Lookman’s missed penalty added to the disappointment, drawing public criticism from his coach.

The Nigerian forward responded on Wednesday, expressing his hurt and calling Gasperini’s remarks “disrespectful.”
Speaking on Sky Italia, Del Piero showed support for Lookman, stating, “Everyone makes mistakes, even from the penalty spot. Beyond the team’s internal issues, I would have been frustrated by Gasperini’s comments as well. I’m not surprised Lookman responded the way he did he has every right to.”
Del Piero also praised Lookman’s impressive season and warned that such criticism could hurt both the player and the team’s morale. “He’s been outstanding, yet now he’s under fire. This could have serious consequences for the rest of Atalanta’s campaign. Let’s see how they handle it.”
