Reigning UAE Pro League champions Al Wasl have officially announced the signing of Nigerian international Isaac Success Ajayi. The forward joins the club on a free transfer after being released by Italian Serie A side Udinese just days before the summer transfer window closed.

This transfer marks a significant shift for Success, who departs European football a decade after first arriving in Granada from the Nigerian academy, BJ Foundation. Over the years, he has played for notable clubs including Udinese, Granada, FC Málaga, and Watford, and will bolster Al Wasl’s attacking options for the 2024-2025 season.

Success boasts an impressive international career, highlighted by winning the Golden Boot at the 2013 Africa U17 Cup of Nations with seven goals and playing a key role in Nigeria’s victory at the FIFA U17 World Cup that same year. Throughout his time in Europe, he has recorded 28 goals and 32 assists in 240 appearances.

Although the UAE transfer window is closed, Al Wasl was able to secure Success’s signature since he was a free agent. Despite interest from a Qatari club, he chose to sign with the UAE champions. The financial details and length of his contract have yet to be disclosed.

Success’s move comes after a period of limited playing time, with his last appearance for Udinese on May 19, 2024, where he featured for just seven minutes in a 1-1 draw against Empoli. Now, he aims to reignite his career with Al Wasl as they compete in the UAE Pro League, the Presidents Cup, and the AFC Champions League this season.
