KRC Genk striker Tolu Arokodare has responded to recent transfer speculation linking him with a move to Fulham, emphasizing his happiness at his current club. The 23-year-old Nigerian forward, often referred to as a replacement for Paul Onuachu, downplayed the rumors in an interview with De Standard, asserting his focus remains on Genk.
Arokodare, who joined Genk in January 2023 from Amiens SC for €5 million, stated, “Just like you, I read the rumors on social media, but I am happy in Genk.” He acknowledged the competitive nature of earning a spot on the Nigerian national team, saying, “For the national team, I know that I have to play in a major competition in the long term. If a Nigerian striker scores three times in the Premier League or the Bundesliga, I know that I have to score at least eight times to have a chance of being called up.”
With a desire to represent Nigeria, he added, “It would be great to wear the shirt of my country. If the national coach does not call me up, I still have a club to focus on.”
Since joining Genk, Arokodare has made an impact, scoring 23 goals and providing five assists in 73 appearances. This season, he has already netted six times in ten Jupiler Pro League games, piquing the interest of clubs abroad, including Fulham.
Fulham is reportedly monitoring Arokodare as they seek to enhance their attacking options, which already feature fellow Nigerians Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi. However, despite Raul Jimenez’s recent fine form and Rodrigo Muniz’s availability, a move for another striker does not seem to be a pressing need for head coach Marco Silva.
