Cole Palmer of Chelsea has faced criticism for his performance during the team’s 2-1 defeat against Liverpool, with former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit stating he is “far from world class.” Despite having a strong start to the season with six goals and five assists in eight games, Palmer struggled to make an impact at Anfield, missing a key opportunity and being largely ineffective throughout the match.
Petit acknowledged that while Palmer had a good previous season, he is still not at the level required for international recognition. “Palmer is a very good player but he’s not yet a top international player,” he commented, emphasizing that Palmer needs to elevate his game to be considered world-class.
In contrast, Petit praised Chelsea’s Moisés Caicedo, who he felt was the standout player against Liverpool. Caicedo demonstrated composure under pressure and played a crucial role in the midfield, showing exceptional skill and energy. Petit described Caicedo as a “modern midfielder” and claimed he has been the best midfielder in the league this season, highlighting his significant contributions to the team.
