He is expected to wait until at least January, with the FA Cup being the most likely occasion for his debut, unless unforeseen injuries or changes prompt his earlier inclusion.
The 35-year-old was primarily seen as a depth option and a veteran presence in the dressing room when Arsenal signed him.
