Bruno Fernandes found himself at the center of controversy during Manchester United’s dramatic 2-2 draw against Everton at Goodison Park not just for his on-field performance but for a heated exchange with an Everton legend.
United were staring at another disappointing Premier League defeat after trailing 2-0 at halftime. However, a brilliant Fernandes free-kick and a late goal from Manuel Ugarte rescued a point for the visitors.

They were fortunate to avoid conceding a last-minute penalty after VAR overturned the referee’s decision, adding to the night’s drama.
Before leading United’s second-half comeback, Fernandes had a tense moment on the touchline with former Everton defender Derek Mountfield.
According to The Telegraph, Mountfield who played a key role in Everton’s golden era, winning two First Division titles, an FA Cup, and the UEFA Cup Winner’s Cup was at Goodison Park to be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame.
During halftime, Mountfield jokingly mimed elbowing United players as the teams returned to the pitch. Fernandes, however, failed to see the humor and engaged in a brief war of words with the Everton legend before the game resumed.
The confrontation may have fueled Fernandes’ determination, as he played a pivotal role in United’s fightback. After the match, Everton manager David Moyes acknowledged the Portuguese star’s influence.

“Bruno played well,” Moyes told TNT Sports. “He dropped deeper and controlled the game. That free-kick gave them the momentum, and we struggled to handle it.”
Reflecting on the game, Fernandes admitted United had to dig deep after a poor first half.
“At halftime, you have to focus on yourself and raise your game,” he told MUTV. “The first half didn’t go as planned, but being 2-0 down gave us more freedom to take risks. That’s how we turned it around.”
Despite the late comeback, United remain in a troubling position, sitting 15th in the table. They now prepare for a crucial midweek clash against Ipswich Town, hoping to climb further away from the relegation battle.
