Juventus vs VfB Stuttgart

Juventus faced their first defeat under manager Thiago Motta in a disappointing performance that many consider their worst of the season. Stuttgart dominated much of the match at Allianz Stadium, with Juventus relying heavily on goalkeeper Mattia Perin’s heroics, including a late penalty save.

However, the match turned decisively when Danilo received a red card, allowing Stuttgart to capitalize and score the only goal of the game through El-Bilal Toure in the closing moments. Here are our player ratings for Juventus following their 1-0 loss to Stuttgart on Matchday 3 of the Champions League group stage.

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Mattia Perin – 8/10
Starting in goal due to Michele Di Gregorio’s suspension, Perin was exceptional, making a series of spectacular saves throughout the match. He even denied Stuttgart a late penalty in the 86th minute but ultimately could do nothing about Toure’s well-placed shot.

Nicolò Savona – 5/10
The young right-back struggled defensively, often getting caught out of position and conceding possession cheaply. His performance was lackluster, and he failed to provide stability at the back.

Pierre Kalulu – 6/10
Kalulu showed moments of promise with some vital defensive interventions, but his overall performance was inconsistent. He could have been more alert on Toure’s winning goal, which ultimately cost the team.

Danilo – 4/10
As the captain, Danilo’s performance was far from ideal. He received two quick yellow cards, resulting in a red card that left his team a man down. His slow reaction to Deniz Undav’s movement also contributed to a disallowed goal for Stuttgart.

Juan Cabal – 5.5/10
Cabal had a decent outing on the left side but struggled when moved to a central role later in the match. He was not able to make a significant impact.

Khephren Thuram – 5.5/10
Thuram worked hard to influence the midfield, running tirelessly, but he was overrun for large portions of the game, especially in the first half, where Juventus lost the midfield battle.

Nicolò Fagioli – 5.5/10
Fagioli had a tough night and struggled to make an impact until paired with Locatelli in the second half. He showed flashes of brilliance but ultimately fell short of expectations for a player of his caliber.

Francisco Conceicao – 5.5/10
The Portuguese winger was largely ineffective, finding it difficult to make any meaningful contributions. His tendency to simulate fouls hindered his performance further.

Weston McKennie – 5/10
McKennie’s return from injury was evident as he lacked the usual energy and influence on the pitch. He was often isolated and unable to contribute effectively to the attack.

Kenan Yildiz – 5.5/10
The young Turkish talent had another challenging game on the left wing, struggling to beat his defenders or make a mark on the match.

Dusan Vlahovic – 5/10
Vlahovic was starved of service throughout the game and had little opportunity to showcase his abilities. His teammates failed to provide him with the necessary support.

Substitutes

Manuel Locatelli – 6/10
Locatelli brought much-needed composure and balance to the midfield upon his introduction, helping to stabilize the team’s performance.

Andrea Cambiaso – 6/10
The fullback made an impact on the right flank, providing more dynamism and energy to the attack.

Timothy Weah – 6/10
Weah proved to be a positive addition, injecting pace and creating problems for Stuttgart’s defense, showing a marked improvement over Conceicao.
