Matheus Cunha made headlines in the FA Cup with a jaw-dropping goal—only to be sent off minutes later for violent conduct. The Brazilian forward, who has been a standout in the Premier League with 13 goals and four assists for Wolves this season, showcased his brilliance before completely losing control.
His form has attracted interest from top clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Nottingham Forest. With a £62.5 million release clause set to activate this summer, a move away from Molineux seems inevitable.
During Wolves’ FA Cup clash against AFC Bournemouth, Cunha unleashed a stunning 30-yard rocket to bring his team level. The strike was so impressive that Arsenal legend Martin Keown couldn’t hold back his praise. Speaking on Match of the Day, Keown said:

“The ability he has is top-level. That goal doesn’t belong in the FA Cup—it belongs in the Champions League. Give him space, and he does things that are Ronaldo-like. That was an absolutely top-drawer finish.”
Despite his brilliance, Cunha’s discipline remains a major concern. In December, he served a two-match suspension for an altercation with an Ipswich Town staff member. Now, he faces a fresh four-game ban after a violent altercation with Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez in the 120th minute.
After Kerkez tugged at his shirt, Cunha retaliated by hitting, kicking, and headbutting him in a shocking display of aggression. The referee wasted no time in showing a red card. The chaos didn’t end there—Cunha had to be physically escorted down the tunnel by staff and stewards as tempers flared.

Keown was left in disbelief, condemning the player’s actions:
“One moment, he’s scoring world-class goals. The next, he’s throwing punches, kicks, and a headbutt—it’s like a scene from the 70s. He completely lost it. Wolves need him on the pitch, not in the stands. These incidents have to stop.”
Cunha’s absence could be costly for Wolves, who are just five points clear of the relegation zone. He will now miss crucial Premier League games against Everton, Southampton, West Ham, and Ipswich. Given the severity of the incident, the ban might even be extended.
His repeated disciplinary issues could also impact his summer transfer prospects, with clubs like Arsenal wary of signing players prone to red cards. After the match, Cunha took to Instagram to apologise, writing:
