Former Bafana Bafana head coach Pitso Mosimane has clarified his position regarding the speculation surrounding the potential coaching role for Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

The current manager of Esteghlal FC denied ever declining the opportunity to lead Nigeria, which arose following the expiration of Jose Peseiro’s contract.

After Peseiro’s departure at the end of February, the Nigeria Football Federation temporarily appointed Finidi George before promoting him to a permanent position in May. However, George’s tenure was short-lived, as he was dismissed just a month later.

In response to the rumors, Mosimane stated, “I have to be honest I never said no to the Super Eagles, and nobody can easily say no to the Super Eagles.” He emphasized that while the possibility was intriguing, no formal discussions ever took place.

He expressed enthusiasm about the idea of coaching the Super Eagles, highlighting the talent available, particularly referencing the impressive attacking trio currently playing in Napoli and AC Milan.

“Who would not want to coach that front three?” he remarked, acknowledging the allure of the role.

Mosimane’s coaching career includes a brief stint as caretaker for the Bafana Bafana in 2007, before he served as an assistant coach under Carlos Alberto Parreira during the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

He was later appointed the head coach of South Africa’s national team in July 2010, a position he held until leaving for Mamelodi Sundowns in 2012.
