Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is pushing for a summer move to bring Sporting CP winger Francisco Trincao to Old Trafford. The Red Devils added just one player in January, with Patrick Dorgu joining from Lecce for £29 million, but his arrival has not significantly improved results.
United’s FA Cup campaign ended with a loss to Fulham, leaving the Europa League as their only remaining opportunity for silverware this season. Amorim has urged fans to remain patient, stressing that he has yet to fully shape the squad according to his vision.
The club is expected to be highly active in the summer transfer window, with Amorim reportedly keen on several players from his former club, Sporting. Alongside Trincao, names like Viktor Gyokeres, Geovany Quenda, and Ousmane Diomande have all been linked with moves to United.

Trincao, a key figure for Sporting since his 2023 transfer from Barcelona, was brought to the club by Amorim and Manchester City’s new sporting director, Hugo Viana. Now, both men could be looking to move the 25-year-old winger away from Lisbon.
Sporting is determined to keep Trincao and is preparing a new contract to ward off interest. His current deal runs until 2027 and includes a staggering €80 million (£66m) release clause. Additionally, any transfer would benefit Barcelona, which still holds a 50% sell-on clause.
The Portuguese winger has had a standout season, recording nine goals and ten assists, making him one of Sporting’s most dangerous attacking threats. Only Gyokeres has been more prolific, scoring 25 goals in just 23 league appearances.

However, both Trincao and Gyokeres are currently dealing with injuries, causing significant concerns for Sporting at a critical point in the season. Their absence could hinder the club’s chances of maintaining their lead in the Primeira Liga title race.
Sporting manager Rui Borges acknowledged the injury struggles, emphasizing the importance of managing his squad carefully. With crucial matches approaching, the team must navigate this challenging period without two of their most vital attacking players.
