Ivan Perisic’s attempt to undermine Arsenal ahead of their Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven spectacularly backfired as the Gunners demolished the Dutch side 7-1, effectively securing their spot in the quarter-finals.
The veteran Croatian, who once played for Tottenham, had suggested before the game that Arsenal lacked the killer instinct to win big matches, citing their struggles in the Premier League.
However, instead of exposing Arsenal’s supposed vulnerability, PSV suffered the heaviest defeat in their club’s 110-year history. Fans on social media quickly mocked Perisic, with one Arsenal supporter posting, “Saying you have a good chance to beat them and then losing by the biggest margin in your club’s history?! Spursy.”

While Arsenal fans celebrated, PSV boss Peter Bosz faced the daunting task of rallying his squad after a disastrous week, which included back-to-back defeats to Go Ahead Eagles in the Dutch Cup and Eredivisie.
“Of course, I will get things back on track,” Bosz insisted. “We’ve shown we can do it—against Juventus, against Feyenoord. But tonight was painful, humiliating. We had no chance.”
Arsenal’s dominant performance, featuring goals from Martin Ødegaard and Riccardo Calafiori, proved they are far from vulnerable. Instead, they are charging forward in the Champions League, leaving Perisic and PSV in their wake.
