Andrea Berta set to replace Edu at Arsenal

Andrea Berta has emerged as the frontrunner to succeed Edu as Arsenal’s sporting director, and his Atletico Madrid connections could see him bring a proven Premier League striker to the Emirates.

Arsenal, still searching for Edu’s long-term replacement, have relied on interim sporting director Jason Ayto since the Brazilian’s departure. However, Ayto’s decision not to make a single signing in January left the Gunners short up front, especially after Kai Havertz’s hamstring injury.

The club is expected to have significant funds available this summer, and should Berta land the job, former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere believes Wolves forward Matheus Cunha will be high on his list of targets.

Berta, who has spent 12 years at Atletico Madrid, is widely respected for his recruitment expertise, having worked closely with Diego Simeone to build competitive squads. His arrival at Arsenal is expected to bring excitement, with hopes of high-profile signings.

“Berta knows Cunha from their time at Atletico Madrid, and it could be a deal that goes through,”

Aliadiere told AceOdds.com.

“He’s having a great season despite Wolves’ struggles, which shows how good he is and how well he’s adapted to the Premier League.”

However, former Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky is also in contention for the role. Now Sparta Prague’s director of football, Rosicky’s deep understanding of the club, its fans, and Mikel Arteta makes him a compelling alternative.

Aliadiere acknowledges the contrasting profiles of both candidates: “Berta has great experience, but Rosicky knows the club inside out. It’s very much 50/50. Either would be a great choice, but it looks like Berta is leading the race.”
