Harry Kane has reached 48 goal involvements in the Champions League, overtaking Wayne Rooney’s tally in the competition. The England captain continues to make history, further solidifying his legacy among English football greats.
Bayern Munich’s star striker opened the scoring just nine minutes into their all-German last 16 clash against Bayer Leverkusen. Former Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise delivered a pinpoint cross, which Kane expertly headed home.
Later in the match, with 75 minutes on the clock, Kane stepped up to the penalty spot and found the top corner, securing a 3-0 lead for Bayern at the Allianz Arena. His tally in the Champions League now stands at 38 goals and 10 assists across his time with Tottenham and Bayern.
Rooney, previously ahead of Kane, managed 47 goal involvements with Manchester United, scoring 30 goals and providing 17 assists. Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling and Frank Lampard both sit on 44, according to Opta statistics. Kane already holds the record for most goals scored by an English player in the competition.
Only one English player has contributed more goal involvements in the Champions League—David Beckham, who recorded 52 while playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. Kane now has his sights set on surpassing that record.
Bayern’s dominant performance against Leverkusen was further strengthened by Jamal Musiala’s goal, while Leverkusen’s Nordi Mukiele was sent off just after the hour mark. Kane’s impact this season has been immense, with the striker scoring nine Champions League goals already.
His impressive tally was boosted by a standout performance in the group stage, where he netted four times in a 9-2 thrashing of Dinamo Zagreb. No player has scored more Champions League goals than Kane since the start of the 2023/24 campaign.
