Liverpool are closing in on a historic treble, dominating the Premier League and reaching the finals of major competitions. Sitting 15 points clear at the top of the league, Arne Slot’s side looks unstoppable domestically. However, Gary Neville has pinpointed the one trophy he believes they won’t win.
The Reds will shift focus to the Champions League this week, facing Paris Saint-Germain for a spot in the quarter-finals. Their first-leg victory came courtesy of a late Harvey Elliott goal and a heroic performance from Alisson. Five days later, they will contest the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United at Wembley.
Neville is convinced that Liverpool have the Premier League “in the bag” and backs them to overcome Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final. However, he remains skeptical about their Champions League chances. “They haven’t just got one hand on the trophy; the ribbons are already being changed as we speak,” Neville said on his Sky Sports podcast.

Despite Liverpool’s strong European pedigree, Neville believes their Champions League journey could end early. “The Champions League is different, it can be over in a one-off game. I wouldn’t be surprised if they went out this week. It’s a 50-50 game against PSG,” he explained.
Liverpool have already suffered one domestic setback this season, crashing out of the FA Cup to Championship side Plymouth Argyle. Nevertheless, their hopes of a treble remain alive, with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk leading a squad brimming with confidence.
With the Premier League virtually secured, Liverpool’s biggest test will be in Europe. If they can overcome PSG, their confidence could propel them to another famous Champions League run. However, Neville remains doubtful, warning that knockout football can be unpredictable.

Newcastle pose a challenge in the Carabao Cup final, but Neville believes Liverpool will prove too strong. “Liverpool are big favorites—they’re in great form and look solid. Newcastle will need something special,” he added.
As Liverpool approach a defining period in their season, all eyes will be on how they handle the pressure. Whether they achieve a historic treble or fall short in Europe, this campaign is already shaping up to be one of their most memorable.
