Pep Guardiola remains optimistic that Manchester City will secure a top-four finish and qualify for next season’s Champions League, despite their recent setback against Brighton.
City had the opportunity to reclaim fourth place with a win at the Etihad, but Brighton twice came from behind to snatch a 2-2 draw. Goals from Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush gave City the lead twice, but the Seagulls responded each time.
The result leaves City in fifth place, one point behind Chelsea, who could extend their lead with a win against Arsenal. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest tightened their grip on third place with a dominant victory over Ipswich.

With just four points separating Chelsea, City, Newcastle, Brighton, and Aston Villa in the race for the final Champions League spot, the pressure is mounting. Guardiola admitted that anxiety among home fans was evident during the game.
The City boss acknowledged the tension, stating that while the crowd supports the team in good moments, the anxiety becomes palpable when things aren’t going well. However, he remains confident City can turn things around with nine games remaining.
City’s upcoming fixtures include a crucial clash against Manchester United at Old Trafford on April 6. Guardiola believes every game from now on will be like a final as they fight to secure a top-four spot.

Having consistently qualified for the Champions League since 2010-11, Guardiola is determined to maintain that streak and guide City back to Europe’s elite competition.
In addition to the league battle, City are still competing in the FA Cup and will face Bournemouth in the quarter-finals. However, winning the FA Cup would only guarantee Europa League qualification, which isn’t City’s primary goal.
