Jan Oblak
The only player in blue who leaves the Villamarín with some credit. Made three saves as Real Betis threatened throughout but were highly inefficient. Could do little to prevent the fourth-minute Josema Giménez own goal that secured the win. Rating: 4
Nahuel Molina
Defended his position well in isolated moments but was woefully short on confidence, exemplified by his subpar crossing and reluctance to break forward with the ball.
With Marcos Llorente returning soon, Molina’s position as a starter may be in jeopardy. Rating: 3
Axel Witsel
Caught out easily due to his lack of speed; Betis targeted the space behind him relentlessly, especially in the first half. It’s not fair to expect him to fight against Father Time at 36. Rating: 3
Josema Giménez
Unfortunately deflected Ez Abde’s cross behind Oblak for what turned out to be the game’s only goal. Played reasonably well otherwise but was susceptible to counterattacks in the second half. Rating: 3.5
Reinildo Mandava
Picked up a yellow card early on. He was a ticking time bomb out of possession and unreliable on the ball, even sending the ball out of bounds while trying to build play. Substituted at halftime. Rating: 3
Koke
Had a colorless first half but attempted to take control as the game progressed. No player completed more passes than the skipper, yet Atlético failed to create clear chances. Rating: 5
Conor Gallagher
Betis forced the England international into awkward decisions on the ball, and he appeared uncertain in duels. Replaced at halftime. Rating: 4.5
Rodrigo De Paul
Largely ineffective, he tried to break lines with his passes, but many went into empty spaces. Rating: 4
Samuel Lino
Continues to search for his first goal this season. He struggled to retain possession, and his decision-making hasn’t improved from last season. Rating: 4.5
Antoine Griezmann
Struggled to create chances for his teammates, with his lone shot on target saved from outside the box. Rating: 4.5
Sergio Álvarez
Only managed a single shot on goal despite showing intent. Had a chance to influence the game after Griezmann’s substitution but could only set up Ángel Correa for a header that hit the woodwork. Rating: 5.5
Alexander Sørloth
Came on at halftime and sought chances in the box but only managed one errant header from a corner. Rating: 4.5
José Galán
Replaced a struggling Reinildo and attempted to push forward occasionally, but spent much of the time defending against Betis’ attacks. A potential penalty was overturned by VAR after a high boot in the box. Rating: 5
Ángel Correa
Created problems for Rui Silva and Betis’ defense, possibly deserving of an earlier introduction. Hit the post twice during his time on the pitch. Rating: 5.5
Giuliano Simeone
Showed energy and intent to advance the ball but couldn’t produce a final product. Rating: 5
Thomas Lemar
In his first appearance in over a year, Lemar provided an additional attacking option and ended with a key pass in his limited time. Rating: N/A
