This comment comes in light of United’s recent decision to part ways with manager Erik ten Hag. Petit, who enjoyed a successful playing career with Arsenal and Chelsea, believes Fernandes and other players share the blame for Ten Hag’s departure.

Petit remarked on the overall body language of Manchester United players, asserting, “Bruno Fernandes annoys me a lot. He was terrible against West Ham and is not captain material.

There needs to be a reaction from these players.” His frustration extended to the team’s performance, indicating that the players have not been living up to their potential.

Regarding the decision to sack Ten Hag, Petit stated, “It was about time. I pity him because many players at the club are far from their best. They concede goals easily and are a mess.”

He noted that Ten Hag faced a lack of support from fans, the club, and even his players, which contributed to the challenges he faced.

Petit did not shy away from holding Ten Hag accountable for some issues, particularly criticizing his recruitment strategy, saying, “Ten Hag is responsible for bringing in average Dutch players from the Eredivisie.”

He also observed that Ten Hag’s demeanor in press conferences often seemed dispassionate, which did not inspire confidence in the team.

Petit concluded that, despite a managerial change, he believes nothing will fundamentally shift at Manchester United.

He advised potential managerial candidates to consider the club’s lack of clear direction and ambitions, stating, “If I’m a manager linked to Manchester United, I’d ask what the project is. I don’t see anything worth joining them for.”
