According to African news outlet The Daily Monitor, local authorities have begun a search for the Arsenal fan, who allegedly fled the scene after attacking Okello with a large stick.
The incident is believed to have occurred at Kyobugombe Trading Centre in Uganda’s Kabale District, shortly after Sunday’s heated Premier League clash between Arsenal and Liverpool ended in a 2-2 draw.
Witnesses report that tensions escalated after Liverpool’s 81st-minute equalizer, leading Okello to celebrate in a way that irritated the Arsenal fan. It is believed that Okello tossed popcorn at his counterpart, which sparked an argument.
The situation reportedly escalated after the match when the Arsenal fan allegedly struck Okello with a stick, causing him to collapse. Okello was taken to Bukinda Health Centre and later transferred to Rugarama Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
