Former England player and manager Glenn Hoddle recently voiced his belief that Chelsea would be in a better position if former manager Thomas Tuchel had remained at Stamford Bridge.

Tuchel, who joined Chelsea in January 2021, had a notable 20-month stint, famously leading the team to Champions League glory in his first season by defeating Manchester City 1-0 in the final.

However, a change in ownership and a challenging start to the 2022-23 season led to his early departure. Graham Potter, his successor, also saw a short tenure, leaving after just seven months in charge.

Chelsea have experienced highs and lows in the past few seasons, showing promise under Mauricio Pochettino and impressing further under Enzo Maresca, who currently has the team fifth in the Premier League and topping the Europa Conference League group.

Despite this, Hoddle insists that had Tuchel been retained, the club might have avoided some of the instability seen in recent years. He expressed his admiration for Tuchel’s abilities, calling him “one of the best jockeys in the game” and praising his adaptability.

Tuchel, after departing Chelsea, spent two years at Bayern Munich before taking over the England men’s national team following Gareth Southgate’s departure after Euro 2024.

Hoddle views Tuchel’s appointment as a step forward for English football, emphasizing the importance of experience over nationality in the managerial role.

Although Chelsea have shown improvements under Maresca, a recent Carabao Cup exit against Newcastle highlighted the work that remains.

Hoddle’s endorsement of Tuchel as England’s new head coach underscores his belief that the manager’s track record speaks volumes, making him a strong contender to lead England successfully.
