Former Premier League manager Tim Sherwood has given high praise to Chelsea’s emerging star, Cole Palmer, highlighting his extraordinary form since his £40 million transfer from Manchester City in 2023.

Palmer, who has netted 29 goals and provided 17 assists in 42 Premier League appearances, has quickly established himself as one of Europe’s top young talents.

Sherwood described Palmer’s play as “incredible” but also sees Chelsea’s Romeo Lavia as a future midfield powerhouse.

Lavia, signed from Southampton in 2023 amid strong interest from Liverpool, has struggled with injuries but is now beginning to make an impact.

Although limited to just one appearance last season, the 20-year-old has returned with composure, precision, and a knack for finding Palmer in advanced positions.

Sherwood believes Lavia has the potential to be “top-drawer,” remarking on the player’s ability to read the game and link up with Palmer.

During a discussion on The Seaman Says podcast, Sherwood elaborated: “Romeo Lavia is a talent. He sees where Cole is, finds him with ease, and sets the tempo in midfield.

Lavia scares defenders as he threads balls to Palmer, who can break through the backline effortlessly. Palmer is a ‘dream’ for any teammate—his assists and goalscoring make him a true No. 10, similar to Dennis Bergkamp.”

With Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca overseeing the team’s promising youth core, Sherwood sees the current squad as one that could be pivotal for both Chelsea and England.

However, consistency is key, as Sherwood notes that maintaining world-class form will be Palmer’s biggest challenge.

Chelsea’s rollercoaster start under Maresca, which includes two losses in four games and an early Carabao Cup exit, has added to the pressure, but the team’s talent remains undeniable.

As Chelsea prepares for a crucial match against Manchester United, Sherwood’s comments underline a bright future for Palmer, Lavia, and Chelsea’s new generation.
