Concerns had arisen after some Libyan media sources reportedly called for action against Nigerian workers in Libya following the CAF ruling on the disrupted 2025 AFCON qualifying match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights.
The ministry clarified that Nigerians are continuing their daily activities in Libya without any interference from local authorities.
The CAF recently awarded Nigeria three points and three goals after the Super Eagles team encountered poor treatment at Al Abaq Airport in Libya, an incident that led to the CAF’s decision against the Libyan Football Association.
The statement from Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated, “As of the time of making this statement, Nigerians in Libya are going about their daily activities, devoid of any form of harassment by Libyan authorities, following the verdict of the Confederation of African Football.
The verdict indicted the Libyan Football Association for their ill-treatment of the Nigerian team and officials while in Libya for a Nations Cup qualifying match.”
Reassuring Nigerians abroad, the ministry emphasized, “The well-being of Nigerian citizens anywhere in the world is a top priority of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and [we] will continue to strive to safeguard it at all times.”
