Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter has voiced his support for Manchester United’s interest in Sporting Lisbon’s prolific striker Viktor Gyokeres, whose current value stands at approximately £58 million.

The Red Devils are exploring the possibility of signing the Swedish forward following the recent appointment of Ruben Amorim as their head coach on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

Gyokeres, 26, has emerged as a standout forward in Europe, having netted 59 goals in just 65 appearances since joining Sporting from Coventry City. Potter, who previously coached Gyokeres during their time at Brighton, believes that the move could be beneficial for United, who have been struggling with their goal-scoring output.

“You put two and two together, and it makes sense,” Potter commented to Premier League Productions. “Whether Sporting want to sell him or if United have the funds is another question, but he’s truly impressed with his performances in Portugal.”

Potter noted Gyokeres’ development from a promising talent at Coventry to an established goal-scorer at Sporting, adding that the Swede’s skills could significantly bolster United’s frontline.

However, Potter acknowledged that United’s January transfer budget might be limited, given their substantial summer spending of £200 million.
