Frank Lampard, the legendary former Chelsea and England midfielder, could be set for a surprising return to the Premier League as West Ham’s next potential manager, according to former Sky Sports presenter Jeff Stelling.

Lampard, who has been out of management since his interim role at Chelsea concluded at the end of the 2022-23 season, might be considered if current West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui fails to improve recent results.

Lampard’s record as a manager has been mixed; his previous stints included a difficult tenure at Everton and two periods at Chelsea, where he initially brought promise but was ultimately unable to produce sustained success.

Nevertheless, his ties to West Ham, the club where he began his professional career, make him a possible fit for the Hammers’ leadership role should Lopetegui’s underwhelming start continue.

Stelling speculated about Lampard’s potential return on talkSPORT, suggesting the former Chelsea man could bring stability and familiarity to West Ham.

While Lampard has also been linked with the Roma job, Stelling believes a Premier League comeback could be an ideal scenario. The Hammers, currently languishing in 14th place, need an upturn in results to avoid slipping further in the standings.

  1. even has a cfc fan i can say that lampard is not a good manager he gives youth a chance is his main good skill but for tactics he seems clueless and every team he has been at has been shipping to many goals because of bad tactics he loses more games than he should. lampard needs to learn has a number 2 with a top manager instead of being given top jobs in prem lge
