Former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright has cast doubt on Joshua Zirkzee’s potential success at Manchester United, questioning whether the £36 million summer signing will find his place under incoming manager Ruben Amorim.

Since his arrival at Old Trafford, the 23-year-old forward has struggled to make an impact, scoring only once—a late winner against Fulham in United’s Premier League opener—before his form declined.

Wright voiced his skepticism on the Wrighty’s House podcast, noting that while he sees promise in United’s other young forward, Rasmus Hojlund, Zirkzee has not shown the movement or goal-scoring instinct required to lead United back to title contention.

Reflecting on Zirkzee’s performance at his former club, Bologna, where he netted only 14 goals in 58 games, Wright suggested that United’s need for a consistent striker remains unmet.

He argued that the club may need to consider other options, whether utilizing Marcus Rashford as a central striker or signing another proven forward to complement Hojlund.

Wright expressed doubts about Zirkzee’s chances to secure a starting role under Amorim, predicting a challenging transition ahead for the player.

With United currently 13th in the Premier League and incoming coach Amorim enjoying recent success with Sporting Lisbon, including a 4-1 win over Manchester City, all eyes are on how the new manager will reshape the squad and address United’s attacking woes.

Zirkzee’s future at Old Trafford may hang in the balance as Amorim prepares to implement his vision for the team.
