Coach Otto Addo disclosed that his choice to leave Partey out was based on confidential discussions aimed at protecting the player.

Although the details remain private, Addo hinted that this decision was a mutual understanding. “I am the coach who always wants to protect the players,” he said, adding that while Partey was keen to participate, he felt it was essential to explain his reasons to the player.

Partey’s absence has also impacted the team’s leadership, as Addo had initially planned to appoint him as captain. In his absence, the responsibility has shifted, with Jordan Ayew now set to lead the Black Stars.

Addo also spoke with rising star Mohammed Kudus, whom he believes will grow into a leadership role in the future, with defender Alexander Djiku and Kudus previously appointed to assist Partey.

The Black Stars find themselves in a challenging position in their qualification campaign, having won just two of their fixtures. Currently third in Group F, they face an uphill battle, with their chances of qualifying hinging on Sudan’s performance.
