Andre Onana has expressed his desire for Manchester United to retain Ruud van Nistelrooy in a coaching role, even as the club prepares for Ruben Amorim’s official arrival as manager.

Van Nistelrooy, who stepped in as interim head coach following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal last week, has led United to a Europa League victory against PAOK with a 2-0 scoreline and will oversee the team’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Leicester City.
When asked about his future at United following the Europa League win, Van Nistelrooy remained cautious, stating, “Not yet. Patience, patience,” indicating he had not received clarity from the club.
However, Onana believes that Van Nistelrooy’s experience and approach have been invaluable to the squad, describing him as “a very good guy, a very good coach.”
The Cameroonian goalkeeper emphasized Van Nistelrooy’s contribution, noting that “he’s doing amazing since he’s here,” and that the players are supportive of his continued involvement.
Despite Onana’s endorsement, he acknowledges that the final decision rests with the club. “But this has to be between him and the club because at the end of the day, they are the ones who have to sit at the table and decide what is best for the club,” he said.
As Ruben Amorim officially takes charge on Monday, it remains to be seen if Van Nistelrooy will continue to have a role within United’s coaching setup.
