The Portuguese manager, officially starting Monday, takes over from Erik ten Hag and will be reunited with midfielder Manuel Ugarte, a player he helped mold at Sporting Lisbon. Ugarte, who joined United from Paris Saint-Germain in a £50 million move over the summer, had difficulty adapting under ten Hag’s leadership. Now, he aims to revive his form under Amorim, his former mentor who led Sporting to a Portuguese league title.

Speaking with TNT Sports Mexico, Amorim expressed his eagerness to work with Ugarte again, praising the 23-year-old Uruguayan as a “very talented boy” with “a lot of room to grow.” Amorim’s familiarity with Ugarte’s style and potential could offer the midfielder the support he needs to make a strong impact in the Premier League.

Amorim leaves Sporting Lisbon in top form, with the team leading the Portuguese league and recently securing an impressive 4-1 Champions League win over Manchester City. Although he admitted he would love to bring Sporting star Pedro Goncalves to Old Trafford, he confirmed that he won’t make any immediate moves for his former players in January, stating, “We’ll see about the summer.”

This managerial change comes as Manchester United sits in an uncharacteristic 13th place in the Premier League, aiming to reclaim its stature. Fans are hopeful that Amorim’s fresh approach, honed in his record-breaking season at Sporting, will reignite United’s ambitions. With Ugarte set to thrive under Amorim’s guidance, United supporters are eager to see what the new era brings as the team prepares for its final match under interim management against Leicester City on Sunday.
