After leading United through four unbeaten games—two wins over Leicester and victories against Chelsea and PAOK—the Dutchman wrapped up his temporary role with a commanding 3-0 win over Leicester City on Sunday.
Van Nistelrooy joined United’s coaching staff under Erik ten Hag last summer and remains contracted until 2026. While he has expressed interest in staying on under Amorim, the Portuguese manager is anticipated to arrive with his own set of trusted assistants, leaving van Nistelrooy’s position in question.
The former striker appreciated the club’s clear communication regarding his interim assignment and now waits for further updates, likely within the next 24 hours.
Reflecting on his temporary role, van Nistelrooy shared, “The club has kept me informed every step of the way, making it clear this was a short-term spell. They communicated clearly whether it could be one game or four.
Now, as they’ve planned to speak further, I expect to know more today or tomorrow. The focus remains on supporting this club in my role, whatever that may be in the future.”
The 3-0 victory over Leicester saw Bruno Fernandes shine with a goal and a crucial setup for a Victor Kristiansen own goal, while Alejandro Garnacho added a stunning third, sealing the win in style. United fans now look forward to Amorim’s upcoming tenure, which begins officially on Monday.
