Wayne Rooney has added a new striker to Plymouth Argyle, and fans may recognize him.
Argyle has had a solid start to the Championship season, winning three of their first nine matches. Highlights include a thrilling victory over Sunderland, a win against Premier League-relegated Luton Town, and a dramatic last-minute win against Blackburn. Their recent 2-1 victory over Rovers was a great response after a disappointing 1-0 loss to Burnley.
However, the team faced a setback when 24-year-old Nigerian striker Muhamed Tijani suffered an injury in training. Tijani, on loan from Czech side Slavia Prague, had just returned to the squad after battling groin and hamstring issues. Unfortunately, he is expected to be sidelined until the New Year after only appearing three times this season.
In light of this, Argyle has brought in Andre Gray to fill the gap. The Jamaican international was a free agent following a turbulent stint with Al-Riyadh in the Saudi Pro League. Gray has over 100 Premier League appearances to his name, scoring 23 goals and providing seven assists during his time in the top flight. Although he wasn’t available for Saturday’s game against Blackburn, he will wear the number 19 shirt for Rooney’s side.
Gray will be hoping that the Devon coast offers a more pleasant environment for him and his wife, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, as they navigated a long-distance marriage while he played in Saudi Arabia, allowing her to focus on her solo career as a member of Little Mix.
