Manchester United has announced that Ruud van Nistelrooy has departed the club following the arrival of new head coach Ruben Amorim.

Van Nistelrooy, who initially returned to Old Trafford over the summer as an assistant to Erik ten Hag, stepped in as interim manager after Ten Hag’s dismissal last month.
In his brief spell as interim boss, Van Nistelrooy led United to an unbeaten record with three wins and one draw, including a strong Carabao Cup victory over Leicester City and a commanding Europa League win against PAOK.
His impact prompted some to consider him a contender for the permanent role, but United swiftly moved to secure Amorim, the former Sporting Lisbon manager, to lead the team.
Amorim’s appointment was made official on November 11, with his arrival at United’s Carrington training ground. Speculation soon arose over Van Nistelrooy’s future within the club, especially after his successful run as interim coach.
However, on Monday evening, United issued a statement confirming Van Nistelrooy’s departure, recognizing his contributions and honoring his legacy as a club legend.
The club also announced the exits of assistant coaches Rene Hake, Jelle ten Rouwelaar, and Pieter Morel, with a finalized first-team coaching setup expected soon.
Prior to his departure, Van Nistelrooy expressed gratitude for the chance to lead the team, clarifying that his role was understood to be temporary.
Meanwhile, Amorim acknowledged Van Nistelrooy’s achievements, calling him a legend and commending his efforts. Van Nistelrooy, known for his ambitions to secure a top managerial position, is expected to pursue further opportunities within the football world.
