The Cheetahs took the lead through Mohammed Tijani’s 16th-minute strike but were denied victory as Victor Osimhen equalized for Nigeria just eight minutes before full-time.

Reflecting on the game, Mounie said, “It is not a bad result in itself. At 1-0, we would have hoped to win this match. We had very clear chances to kill the match. When you play against Nigeria and fail to take your chances, that’s what happens.”

Gernot Rohr’s men now face a challenging task in Tripoli next Monday, where they must beat Libya to secure a place at AFCON 2025.

Despite acknowledging the difficulty, Mounie remains optimistic, saying, “We agree on the pitch that it is a fight. They also want to play for their qualification. It will not be an easy match, but we will need strong nerves to succeed.”
