The tragic news was revealed by Nwabali on Instagram, where he posted a heartfelt message: “Rest In Peace Dad,” accompanied by a tearful emoji.
Green, a long-time supporter of Nwabali, conveyed his condolences, emphasizing the goalkeeper’s contributions to both Rivers State and Nigeria.
“Nwabali is not just a great ambassador of Rivers State and Nigeria but also a fantastic footballer who has grown in leaps and bounds in service to his country.
“This young man is like a son to me, so you can imagine my shock upon hearing of his father’s passing. On behalf of the people of Rivers State, I send love, support, and condolences to Stanley during this difficult time.”
Nwabali, currently playing for Chippa United, recently featured in Nigeria’s AFCON qualifier against Benin Republic.
Although the Super Eagles secured qualification for the 2025 tournament, Nwabali conceded his first goal in the campaign during Thursday’s 1-1 draw in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
This somber moment underscores the strength and resilience of Nwabali, who continues to represent Nigeria with dedication despite his personal loss.
