Lookman, who sought a move to Paris Saint-Germain during the last transfer window, has since been reintegrated into the squad and has started the season in exceptional form.
The 27-year-old forward has already netted eight goals and provided five assists in just 14 appearances across all competitions for Atalanta this season. His efforts have made him a pivotal part of La Dea’s attack, justifying his rising market value.
Lookman’s current contract runs until 2026, with Atalanta holding an option to extend it by an additional year. Should they activate the clause, his annual salary will increase to €2 million.
The winger originally joined Atalanta in the summer of 2022 for a modest €9.3 million from RB Leipzig, making his development into one of Serie A’s top performers even more remarkable.
The Super Eagles star played a key role in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph last season, including a hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen.
His stellar performances earned him the 14th spot in the 2024 Ballon d’Or rankings, solidifying his reputation on the global stage.
With Lookman’s value soaring and interest from top European clubs growing, Atalanta’s decision to set such a high price underscores their ambition to maintain a competitive edge in Serie A and Europe.
That type of reason for which PSG wanted to sign Lookman, doesn’t appear to be a good one. He may also be frozen out if their player Goncalo Ramos recovers from the injury.
