Viktor Gyokeres, one of the most sought-after strikers in the world, has caught the attention of Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal.

The Swedish international, currently thriving at Sporting Lisbon, has been a revelation under former coach Ruben Amorim, netting an incredible 66 goals in 68 appearances for the Portuguese side.
The 26-year-old’s form has also piqued the interest of Chelsea and Bayern Munich. Sporting are reportedly willing to part with their star forward for £63 million—a fee well below his release clause—but only next summer. Amorim, now United’s head coach, has ruled out signing any of his former players during the January transfer window.
Gyokeres Names His Conditions
In a recent interview with Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Gyokeres clarified what it would take to secure his signature:
“That you get an important role and that you get to play. That’s the most important thing. There are other things that also need to be in place, but I’ll take it when it comes.”
This condition comes as Manchester United grapples with their lack of firepower upfront. United’s only natural center-forward, Rasmus Højlund, has struggled for consistency, scoring just 18 goals in 55 appearances since his £72 million move from Atalanta.
Amorim, credited with developing Gyokeres into a prolific goal machine, may look to work his magic on Højlund before pursuing additional attacking options. However, the Red Devils’ pressing need for a reliable No. 9 makes Gyokeres a tantalizing prospect for the summer transfer window.
Arsenal and Chelsea in the Mix
Chelsea and Bayern Munich boast established striker options like Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, and Harry Kane. Arsenal, on the other hand, lack a true out-and-out goal scorer, with Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli struggling for form despite Kai Havertz’s strong performances in a central role.
Gyokeres’s profile as a natural finisher could make him an ideal signing for the Gunners. However, the striker has yet to commit to any potential move. Speaking on Amorim’s departure to Manchester United, Gyokeres expressed gratitude to his former manager:
“It’s very sad that he’s leaving, but of course, we understand his decision. He gave me that chance and helped me develop so much.”
When asked about a reunion with Amorim, Gyokeres added:
“He probably has some strikers there already, so we’ll see. It’s fun, but nothing I attach any importance to because it’s talk and nothing concrete.”
