Manchester United are reportedly targeting Sporting Lisbon’s young sensation Geovany Quenda, with the 17-year-old forward possibly becoming one of new manager Ruben Amorim’s first signings at the club.

Amorim, who replaced Erik ten Hag earlier this month, will take charge of his first match this weekend against Ipswich at Portman Road.
Although Amorim must work with the squad he inherited until January when the transfer window opens, it is expected that United will be cautious in their spending, with significant moves planned for the summer.
Quenda, who made a breakthrough under Amorim at Sporting Lisbon, is one of Europe’s most highly rated young talents. His contract reportedly contains a €100 million release clause, but Sporting are unlikely to entertain any offers below €40 million.
United’s interest in Quenda dates back to before Amorim’s appointment, and now with the manager’s arrival, United’s chances of signing the player have only increased.
Quenda recently earned a call-up to the senior Portugal national team, partly due to Bruno Fernandes’ suspension for their match against Croatia.
In addition to Quenda, United are also monitoring Viktor Gyokeres of Sporting, though Amorim has downplayed any immediate moves for his former players. “I won’t be signing Sporting players in January,” he said. “We’ll see about the summer.”
