Alvaro Fernandez has confirmed that he is “very happy” at Benfica and is not currently focused on a potential return to Manchester United in January, despite the club holding a buyback option.

Fernandez, who made his move to Benfica permanent in the summer of 2024 after a successful loan spell, has enjoyed an impressive season in Portugal.
The 21-year-old has been a regular starter since mid-August and has even added goals to his game, netting twice in his last two appearances before the international break.
His performances have attracted attention from major clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Although United retains an option to bring Fernandez back, the left-back is focused solely on his current situation. “I’m doing very well here,” he told Marca.
“I’m focused on what I have to do because I have a game every three days. It’s always nice to have teams call you, but I’m happy with Benfica.”
Fernandez, who joined United from Real Madrid as a teenager, went on to express his ambition to continue growing, both personally and professionally, with Benfica, adding that he is committed to winning titles with the Portuguese club.
Despite United’s ongoing left-back struggles, with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia yet to feature this season, Fernandez has kept his mind focused on Benfica’s future.
